"IPSF represents 350,000 pharmacy students and recent graduates in
70 countries worldwide. IPSF is a non-governmental, non-political,
and non-religious volunteer organisation that aims to study and
promote the interest of pharmacy students and encourage international
co-operation amongst them."

WORLD HEALTH DAY 7TH APRIL 2006:- April 2,2006
_Working together for health_

Is there a shortage of pharmacists, career switching, inadequate
education and training, poor salaries, working environment and
management, significant national or international migration or early
retirement of pharmacists in your country? If yes, you have a reason
to campaign on the World Health Day 2007.

Since 1950, World Health Day (WHD) has been held each year on 7th
April to raise awareness of specific global health issues. This
year's theme -_"Working together for health_"- highlights the
challenging and often inspiring work carried out by health workers.

The global population is rising, but the number of health workers is
stagnating or even falling. Across the developing world, health
workers are facing economic hardship, deteriorating health
infrastructures and social unrest. In developed countries, a rise in
chronic health problems among ageing populations has led to an
ever-growing demand for health workers from developing countries.
This makes shortage of skilled human resources even worse in poorest
countries.

IPSF would like to invite all pharmacy students around the world to
join the World Health Day 2006 to raise awareness of this issue
regarding this years' theme _"Working together for Health_" and build
support to ensure that pharmacists will be working where they are
needed, when they are needed, with the right skills to provide the
highest attainable level of health for people everywhere.

The IPSF Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign (PPAC) can be
comfortably combined with the World Health Day activities. The aims
of PPAC are to promote the role and potential roles of the pharmacist
within health care systems and generate awareness of the profession
amongst pharmacy students, other health professionals and the public.
Please read more about the IPSF PPAC at:
http://www.ipsf.org/website/html/PD/ppac.html

Priorities for action for the World Health Day are:
1. Educating and training health workers
2. Supporting and protecting health workers
3. Enhancing the effectiveness of health workforce
4. Tacking imbalances and inequities
Please take a look at the attached files "Seven Key Messages for WHD
2006" and "What to Do on WHD 2006" to find out more. The WHO Advocacy
Toolkit can be downloaded at

Further more, the IPSF Moving On III research project is looking
into final year pharmacy students' intentions and aspirations to
migrate. The worldwide project will be the largest study ever done on
pharmacists' migration. In many countries, migration of health
professionals is one of the leading causes of imbalances of
workforce. Please contact IPSF, if your country would like to hear
more about this questionnaire based study.

We would like to wish you all success for your World Health Day and
other related activities on the 7th of April and beyond. Please
contact us at the e-mails addresses below, if you are planning to
organise World Health Day activities, an IPSF Pharmacy Profession
Awareness Campaign and/or take part in the Moving On III research
project. As always we encourage you all to write about your
activities and share your experiences with the other students.
