Total number of delegates: 306
Workshops, symposiums, competitions, social events and general assemblies were held throughout the 10 days of congress. I am very honoured to say that all our Canadian pharmacy students were well represented at each of these events and conducted themselves professionally during the entire congress.
As official delegates, Sharon and Cynthia attended 22 hours of General Assembly representing CAPSI. At these meetings, two delegates from each participating country were able to vote on issues concerning IPSF. As we were familiar with Robertˇ¦s Rules, we were able to actively participate in discussions by proposing motions, seconding motions, amending motions, etc. As one of roughly 34 member associations voting, CAPSIˇ¦s voice was heard.
In addition to General Assemblies, both Sharon and Cynthia actively participated in workshops specific to their positions. Sharon not only attended, but she was asked by an executive IPSF member to make a presentation to the other Contact Persons (CPs) on the topic, ˇ§How to be a Good CPˇ¨. She also ran a workshop on how to put together an HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign, along with two other American pharmacy students. Cynthia attended two workshops with national Student Exchange Officers (SEOs) from over 30 countries. They worked on networking, problem solving and troubleshooting so that the SEO can be fully prepared for her upcoming term. It was an extremely beneficial learning opportunity that will help both of us immensely over the next year.
At each World Congress, IPSF holds a competition called the Patient Counseling Event (PCE). Pharmacy students from across the globe test their patient counseling skills for a chance to win 500EUR towards the follow yearˇ¦s World Congress. The event was initiated back in 1989 and its goal is to foster effective communication and patient pharmacist interactions, which can be practiced in a real life setting. We are very proud to announce that two of our Canadian pharmacy students, Shirley Yeung (UBC) and Victoria Su (UBC), won the beginning and advanced level competitions respectively.
To add to our continuing success, two other Canadian pharmacy students were designated as the Public Health Coordinators for IPSF. Sharon Leung (UBC) will be the Public Health Coordinator for HIV/AIDS Awareness and April Chan (UBC) will be the Public Health Coordinator for Diabetes. For this upcoming year, these coordinators will be responsible for arranging specific health campaigns in various pharmacy schools around the world.
Although we were far away from home, CAPSI continues to be an active contributor to the IPSF Development Fund auction, which fundraises for pharmacy students in developing countries. With the help of CAPSI representatives from the nine pharmacy schools across Canada, we were able to collect auction items symbolic of Canada for the auction. A total of $454 CAD was raised by CAPSI Canada for the IPSF Development Fund. Thank you so much to those who contributed!
Overall, this IPSF World congress provided a wonderful opportunity for our Canadian delegates to bond and network with students from different countries. An overwhelming amount of positive feedback has been received from the participating students and hopefully, there will be a continuation of such enthusiastic student involvement for the world of international pharmacy in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this brief report.
Regards,
Cynthia Cho-Kee

Wang goes for win No. 18 in opener
New York (92-60) at Tampa Bay (58-94), Friday, 7:15 p.m. ET By Mark Polishuk / MLB.com
??????
Though they play in the same division, the Yankees and Devil Rays have been as far apart as two franchises can be over the past nine seasons. While the Yankees have clinched their ninth consecutive American League East title, the Devil Rays are on the verge of their eighth last-place finish in their nine years of existence. There have been few lowlights for New York against Tampa Bay, but most of them came last season when the Yankees posted an 8-11 mark in their season series against their Florida rivals.
??????
It was the first time the Brox Bombers lost a season series to Tampa Bay, but the favor has been more than returned this season. The Yanks are 11-3 against the Rays this year, and are a win away from their 100th all-time victory over Tampa Bay. The Yankees' franchise mark against the Rays currently stands at 99-45.
??????
With one more victory, second-year hurler Chien-Ming Wang will have the most wins by a Yankee since Andy Pettitte won 21 in 2003. Wang is 2-0 with a 1.11 ERA in three starts against the Rays this season.
??????
Rays rookie James Shields can only hope that his sophomore year is as successful as Wang's has been. For now, however, Shields is mired in a four-game winless streak. The right-hander has pitched well at Tropicana Field, going 4-2 with a 3.78 ERA in nine home starts. |

Introducing the beautiful Taroko Gorge

|
|
??????Taiwan, a beautiful island also called Formosa, is well known as one of the most liberal and prosperous country in Asia. However, seldom people know that Taiwan had struggled to reach its nowadays outstanding achievement. Taiwan, located between mainland china and Pacific Ocean, was first populated by Austronesian peoples in the Stone Age. It was colonised by the Dutch in the 17th century, while influxes of Han people from the mainland. Later on, it has undergone the rule of Koxinga, a Ming dynasty general, and was substituted for Ching dynasty in 1683. After the first Sino- Japanese War, The island was ceded to Japan , and went through a 50-year-long colonization. Finally, after Japanese was defeated in the World War ˘ş.Taiwan was returned to the Republic of China( R.O.C) in October 1945, governed by Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang).
??????
Result from discontent with the corruption of Kuomintang(KMT) and misunerstanding between local taiwanese and new-coming mainlander, the February 28th incident brokeout in 1947. What's worse, the following "white terror" sacrificed nearly 30000 Taiwanese under a terrible massacre by mainland military force. It was not untill the KMT leader from Chaing Kai-Sheks to his successor, Chiang Chin-kauo, that Taiwan began to liberal its political systems. Another extremely important page of Taiwan history is KMT's losing the Chinese Civil War in 1949 , the government of R.O.C moved its capital from Nanjing in China to Taipei in Taiwan. In other words, the war result in forming a new authorities called People's Republic of China (P.R.C) under rule of the Chinese Communist Party whitch is totally alien from R.O.C in Taiwan ruled by Chinese Nationalist Party.
??????
The controversy over the political status of Taiwan confused many foreigners, wondering if the island is an "inaleinable part of China" as what China claimed recently. No one is able to answer this complicated historical controversy, however, most Taiwanese understand that Taiwan is one hundred percent a independent contry in practical that is completely away from P.R.C. Although Taiwan has been hectored diplomatically, denied access to most of the internatonal organizations (such as the UN) by the P.R.C government, threatened by the possibility of P.R.C's will to unite Tiawan by force, we never give up our democratic reforms and econamic developments in the past, right now, or in the future. |

??????Since the beginning of our registration on January 1st, many have completed their registration procedure. However we have received quite a few questions regarding visas, and especially landing visas. Here I would like to inform you that the landing visa isn't applicable for everyone according to some rules.
??????
Since Taiwan is not an internationally recognized country, our foreign offices preside over districts rather than individual countries. For example, Therefore many of you in such circumstance need to travel to the assigned Taiwan office in your neighbor country to apply for the visa. If you couldn't find your neighbor Taiwan office, please contact me ( weichin0326@hotmail.com) for inquiry. Or if it's inconvenient for you to travel to the office, please contact me as well.

Tainan, located at the southern part of the island, is Taiwan's earliest developed city, and has more historic landmarks than any other city in Taiwan. Its abundant historic relics in Taiwan include Chih-Kan Lou, Old Fort of Anping, and Eternal Golden Castle. The following are the most famous landmarks, and they are all available for sightseeing. |

??????
The touching movie "Brokeback Mountain", produced last year, has received lots of appreciation, and not surprisingly, it was also a big winner of the 78th Oscar Academy Award in 2006. Ang Lee, the director, was definitely one of the biggest contributors!
??????
However, being the first Taiwanese to win the honor of Achievement in Directing, Ang Lee has put in lots of efforts. Long before he went to American for further study in directing, he has already participated in several theatre productions. Although, he showed a great talent in directing most of his projects at school, he did have some hard time after graduation. During that period of time, his wife supported him financially because he had no job. While being a full-time "house-husband", Ang Lee accumulated experiences by watching films and writing drama scripts. Finally, he got a chance to make the movies: "Pushing Hands" and "The Wedding Banquet". Both of the movies won many representative awards, the latter one was even nominated for Foreign Language Film in the annual Oscar Academy Award. It is the first time that a Taiwanese film has been nominated, and it is Ang Lee's first step towards the making of world class movies. He challenged himself with different varieties of film thereafter, and all of them received wonderful commendations.
??????
In year 2000, a Chinese motion movie: "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" caught both audiences' and film critics' eyes. In addition, "Brokeback Mountain", produced last year, moved the world again. Every single time, Ang Lee surprises us with his genius of handling deep emotions and meanings within the movie. Let us look forward to the outstanding works that he will bring us in the future! |
