for the Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign
Date: September 20, 2006
Summary: This is our first year of organizing the IPSF Driving Range Fundraiser and the response from the students was astounding! Thank you to everyone for showing up!
Although it was the not the best weather of the week, the event was very well received. Sign ups for the event was full within a week.
Overall, it was a great event where students from ALL years came out to meet-and-greet. Even with the rainy weather, everyone could feel the enthusiasm in the air!
Congrats to the second years who had the most students come out for the event!
A special thank you to Ms. Colleen Brady, who came out to the golf club even in such rainy weather.
Objective of Event: This event is an opportunity for the pharmacy faculty and students of all years to meet one another in the beginning of the school year and establish relationships that encourage the sharing of experiences and knowledge of pharmacy. Ultimately, the goal of this tournament is to raise funds for the Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign.
History and Details of the Event:
This tournament is intended to be the first fundraiser held by International Pharmaceutical Students' Federation (IPSF) for the Pharmacy Awareness Campaign.
All funds raised in this tournament will be delegated to the Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign.
The goal of Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign (PPAC) is to increase the awareness of the pharmacy profession through educating the public and other healthcare professionals about the invaluable role pharmacists play on the healthcare team and in the community.?This also includes educating fellow pharmacy students and potential pharmacy students about the many opportunities available within the pharmacy profession. PPAC events are organized in many countries in different ways, such as holding community health screenings, inviting pharmacists from various fields of pharmacy as guest speakers to school luncheons/teas, holding brown bag events and publicizing the role of the pharmacist by setting up a booth in malls where we can give out educational materials, or hold a pharmacy camp where younger children can learn and experience what pharmacy is about.?These are only a small sample of the multitudes of ways in which PPAC is making a difference around the world by demonstrating that pharmacists provide a valuable service to the public and health profession.
This year, the money raised from PPAC at UBC, will be used to start a PPAC Award. This award recognizes event initiatives that promote the awareness of the pharmacy profession through educating the public and other healthcare professionals about the invaluable role pharmacists play on the healthcare team, and in the community. Most importantly, it is a financial support for these events to continue running and an inspiration for new concept, activity or events.
Deadline for award nomination is January 13, 2006. Check our website for updates. The final decision for the recipient event will be decided upon by the CAPSI council.
