Allen B. Chernenkoff Senior Representative

Educational Background: 2nd year pharmacy student with three years of general sciences prior.

Goals for the year:
1. To generate members’ interest and input in sculpting the face of the profession at such an opportunistic time in the history of pharmacy, through coordination of various thought provoking activities.
2. To enrich relations and promote unification between pharmacy student groups, via the elucidation of our common goals.
3. To win a fourth consecutive Award of Professionalism title through my effort in organizing the best Pharmacists Awareness Week in Canada in 2008.

 Interest in pharmacy: Undecided, but leaning towards a career as the Vancouver Canucks’ personal pill attendant.

 When I have free time: Ha, I think you have the wrong person.

Lyle Powell Junior Representative

Educational background: Three and a half years at UVic in microbiology, and looking forward to my graduation in 2010!

Goals for the year:  My main goal for this year and my future as CAPSI Senior is to inform the students on what CAPSI can do for them.  From PDW, to the compounding, OTC, interview and literary competitions, to the CAPSI symposia, I believe there is a lot for CAPSI members to get out of their short time in Pharmacy school.I look forward to working and learning from Allen all there is to know so all the CAPSI events such as Jeopardy or sweet revenge run even better each year.  Also I look forward to working with the members who are going to make the over 5000 km trek to PDW this year on the opposite side of the country in St John’s.


Interest in pharmacy:
  Yes... but too many options to choose from...

When I have free time: 
Catch up on school or emails…. Or going for a bike ride on one of the few sunny days here.

Cindy So Treasurer

Educational background: I am currently in 2nd year pharmacy. I was at UBC for two years studying sciences prior to entering pharmacy.

Goals for the year:
1. To have reimbursements and subsidizations (eg. PDW and PAW) ready for students in a timely manner
2. To propose a budget for the upcoming year to the CAPSI Council and members as well as to maintain CAPSI in a sustainable financial status
3. To ensure that CAPSI members benefit from their membership by overseeing how their membership fees are used
Interest in pharmacy: I would like to get a flavour of all the different avenues of pharmacy before I decide which route I'm going to take as a career.
When I have free time: I do anything but think about school

Ariel Mcleod Secretary

Educational background: Previously an arts student with a B.A. in Anthropology, Ariel is now in her 2nd year of Pharmacy.  

Goals for the year: 
My main goal for the year is communication!  I feel it is very important that CAPSI continues to grow with the other student organizations in our faculty. I'm really looking forward to being the liason for CAPSI at the interclub meetings.  My other goals for the year are guaranteeing we always have a room for our meetings and providing the council and members with thorough minutes.  

Interest in pharmacy:
 
Right now, just learning as much as I can about all the different avenues. 

When I have free time: 
Wait! Free time? Such a thing exists?  I thought it was a myth!

Cheryl Chan Fundraiser

Educational Background: 2 years of science at UBC before transferring into pharmacy

Goals for the year: To organize fun and successful events to raise money for the local UBC CAPSI budget while promoting professionalism.

Interest in pharmacy: Currently undecided…still exploring my options!

When I have free time: I love to bake, shop, travel, listen to music, hang out with    friends, and curl up with a good book.

Nancy Liu CAPSI International Pharmaceutical Student Federation (IPSF) Representative 

Educational Background: 2 years in microbiology and immunology at UBC. I am now in 2nd year Pharmacy.

Goals for the year:
1.
To increase awareness and enthusiasm within the student body regarding international opportunities such as exchanges and internships available.
2. To use creative strategies to organize workshops and events that bring to attention important international health issues.
3.
To take on the challenges of fundraising necessary to execute the first 2 goals

Interest in pharmacy: Very much undecided. I am more uncertain now than when I first entered Pharmacy!

When I have free time: What free time??? This is a rare event but when I do come across it, I enjoy going ballroom dancing, trying out new foods and exploring the city galleries and museums like a tourist.

 

Roger Wu IT Officer

Educational background: I finished a BSc in biochemistry and economics...and now I'm a BSc (Pharm) candidate for 2011.

Goals for the year:
1.
To work on the CAPSI website and forum for updates and modifications

improve my time management and communication skills

When I have free time: I waste it on random things...but truly having spare time rarely happens.

Rachel Neumann CAPSIL Editor

Educational background: 2nd year pharmacy student

Goals for the year: To use my opportunity as CAPSIL editor to raise awareness about issues that I feel passionate about: the environment, antibiotic resistance and pharmacist prescribing rights.

Interest in pharmacy: I'm not sure yet.  I've been trying to experience as many aspects of pharmacy as possible before I decide.  In July-August I'm going to be doing the Summer Student Research Program.

When I have free time: Going camping and dirt biking.

 

Boyang Xia Second Year Representative

Educational Background: First year pharmacy student with one year of general sciences experience. IB grad.

Goals for the year:
1. To facilitate communication between CAPSI and the class of 2011.
2. To make the 2008 CAPSI compounding competition as fun and challenging as possible.
3. To become even more involved with CAPSI in future years.

Interest in pharmacy: International pharmaceuticals, primarily between North America and East Asia.

When I have free time: Photography; Do (somewhat) useless psychomotor routines; Card tricks; Catch up on sleep 

Nicole Ilic Third Year Representative

Educational background: I am currently a 3rd year Pharmacy student.  Before entering pharmacy, I completed 3 years of a Chemistry major at Thompson Rivers University.

Goals for the year: One of my goals is to increase awareness about CAPSI to my classmates and what CAPSI can do for them.   I plan to promote CAPSI events and work with the council to ensure these events are successful.  I also plan to organize a successful patient interview competition.  I will encourage fellow students to attend PDW 2009 in St. Johns Newfoundland to not only experience the educational sessions and social activities, but experience the culture of one of Canada’s most unique provinces.

Interest in pharmacy: Mainly hospital pharmacy but I am open to all career options available.

When I have free time:.When in Vancouver, I like cleaning my house, Facebooking to avoid studying, watching Star Trek, shopping, and clubbing whenever I get the chance.  When at home in Kamloops, I love to take walks around town with friends, playing with my nephew, weekends at the lake, and taking random drives out to neighbouring rural cities. 

William Lau Fourth Year Representative

Educational background: Fourth year pharmacy student with two years of science undergrad

Goals for the year: 
1. To let my peers know about upcoming CAPSI events and get them more involved
2. To promote professional development by organizing the OTC competition and
supervising the Student Literary Challenge.
3. Meet more people and have fun :)

Interest in Pharmacy
: Opening my own pharmacy to beat out shoppers or get bought out by shoppers. If I'm able to teach, that'll be sweet too.

When I have free time: I like to "stop and stare" at random things. No actually, I'm into music and sports. In between breaks, you'll usually find me playing ball in the student rec center. When I've saved enough, I like to blow my money on traveling to places I haven't been.

Sharon Leung CAPSI National IPSF Representative 

Educational background : B.Sc., 3rd Year Pharmaceutical Sciences Student.

Goals for the year :
1. Increase awareness of the IPSF and improve organization and national coordination of IPSF events.
2. Increase awareness and improve the International Student Exchange Program.
3. Address the potential issues regarding legal responsibility of the international student in order to facilitate application in Canada.

Interest in Pharmacy: Get a job. Be happy. Make my patients laugh while helping them to lead healthier lives.

When I have free time: I sleep and then I sleep so more....but when I do get spare time, I like to doodle, play badminton, take lots of random pictures and just spend time with family/friends.
